I got a Medal! Or Three!

Last weekend marked the official start of my RunDisney addiction. I’m talking about Princess Race Weekend! Kaitie and I both did the challenge. Of course, she is a veteran with her hefty stack of medals from races throughout the years. For me though, this was my first time participating in a RunDisney event. On top of that, it was also my first half marathon!

A little backstory, I ran cross country in high school and generally really enjoy running. since starting college, my exercise habits have been off and on. But since I had signed up for the Glass Slipper Challenge (GSC) last summer, I worked much harder at consistently getting out and running. I was super jealous of Kaitie when we went for Wine and Dine weekend because she was running it and I wasn’t. But that didn’t stop me from going to the expo, which just got me even more excited for Princess. As months got closer, I got more serious about my running and training. A buddy of mine ended up running the Gasparilla half on the same day so we decided to train together for it. But anyways, the point is I actually trained and was ready for the weekend.

On Friday we left a little later than we planned, and dropped Walt of at the doggie hotel for the weekend, so we headed straight to the expo to pick up our packets! Of course we couldn’t go to the expo and not get some souvenirs to further prove we are hardcore RunDisney racers. As well, we also stopped at the Children s Miracle Network Hospitals booth to see Kaitie’s old roommate Kieriay! she works for them and was pretty excited to be there. We were also pretty hungry so we made sure to try almost all of the sample food.  For the weekend we stayed at Fort Wilderness. I was in a tent while Kaitie was in her parents RV (Her dad was volunteering at the half). But don’t worry, I actually love tent camping.

Of course for the GSC, before you can tackle the half you have to run the Enchanted 10k on Sunday. Kaitie and I decided to Jog/Walk this together because we both wanted to save our energy for the Half. I had a lot of fun going through this course with Kaitie! you get a lot of park and resort time on the 10k course. Not to mention this was my first RunDisney race ever! I honestly couldn’t tell you our time nor could I care. It was fun. And with my first race, came the first of three medals!2ad2315f-896e-40ed-afc6-e1fe6eee4276

Of course after waking up at 3am and then doing the 10k, your pretty tired throughout the day. That didn’t stop us from having a delicious lunch with Kaitie’s parents at Kona Cafe. I have eaten here for breakfast before but never for lunch. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and is was pretty good. Kaitie got the Pan Asian Noodles with Tofu and I must admit I liked hers more. We also split the Vegetarian Sushi Roll.

After lunch we had plans to go to Magic Kingdom for a while. But we were feeling pretty tired so we got a Dole Whip while we were at the Polynesian and sat on one of the swings on the beach for a while. meanwhile Kaitie named all of the seagulls and gave them back stories.

After that we walked to the Grand Floridian to get Kaitie’s mom a surprise cupcake. We did also end up walking into Magic Kingdom to pick up some Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards. we’ve been pretty into playing that around the park recently. Unfortunately we either forget the correct band or something else happens and we have not even completed our first run through. Today we just picked up a new set and then headed back to Fort Wilderness. Naps ensued next. I believe we then woke up for dinner and hung out watching game shows until it was time for bed.

My alarm went off at 3am… and I hit snooze for another 15 minutes. Eventually I got myself and headed for the coffee pot that was already hot and ready thanks to Kaitie’s dad who had to leave at 1:30am to volunteer. I walked into the camper to find Kaitie still asleep. So naturally I sang Adele’s ‘Hello” song to her until she woke up. I ate my banana and Luna bar while simultaneously drinking water and coffee. We drove over to Epcot, which was a pain but I am sure that is per norm. Once we parked and got half way to the where the action was I realized I still had my glasses on and had to go back to leave then in the car. Once we got in we went to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals tent to see Kieriay again before the race! Then it was time use the bathroom before heading to the corrals. The race started as we were walking over but we were corrals J & N so we had some time.

Of course, eventually we got to our corals, the races started, and the race ended. But I must say, running my first half was probably one of the most achieving feelings I have ever had. Not just finishing, but even in the middle of the race I just felt good running and about myself. It was awesome. Unfortunately a costly bathroom break in the first half mile caused me to be one minute over my goal time. I was shooting for under two hours and ended at 2:01:30. But it’s okay, I really am not disappointed. I’ll just have to get it at the dark Side Challenge in April! Plus… I got a medal… Actually three!20160221_150645

Overall Princess Race Weekend was absolutely amazing! From the Expo, the races, and of course spending the weekend in Disney with Kaitie, it all was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to running more RunDisney races in the future! Cannot wait until April!

Party Mode at Epcot’s Food & Wine

UPDATE: This draft was written at a more appropriate time but never posted. so you can and will enjoy it now.

Of course, if we didn’t talk about Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival are we even a blog? This year’s Food & Wine Festival featured many delectable items new and old from around the world. While we tried to get pictures of everything we tried… for some reason all of our pictures from the food seemed to be missing bite sized pieces. But luckily we were still able to get plenty of pictures of our, mostly unconsumed, Wines and other Party Mode style drinks.12178298_908212422580902_101133857_n

Of course these drinks were not all consumed in one day of Food and Wining. We did though have to make back to back to back trips to Epcot the fist three days of Food & Wine to ensure we would get our pass holder commemorative port wine glass! (mission accomplished)

After trekking around the countries time after time again, we are going to find a few favorites among the long list of event alcohols available. Kaitie’s favorite was the beer flights from the craft beer stand. She really likes beer and I really like her so it works. We couldn’t just settle for one or the other though, so we got both of them and tried them all! Kaitie also likes the snack mix.

12180158_10153793534842216_1036876776_n We couldn’t go to food & WINE without trying a selection of their available wines. The picture at the top of the article features the festival Chardonnay and Cabernet. The picture below features a white and red wine from the Artistry of Cheese and Wine stand. also featured is the cheese platter from the same stand.

Kaitie also likes her cheese… are you seeing a trend here?

Of course, what meal is complete without dessert? Or even better, Dessert flavored alcohol!

While Kaitie was not present, I did enjoy some awesome beer from the Germany stand!

The Chew-Tini, and Sangria from the Sustainable Chew stand were also delectable choices! Not to mention the Chew-Tini was great to help cool off in the Florida heat! Overall, we definitely got our fill at this years Food and Wine!

As Time Goes By

So here we are still alive and kicking. But the real question is, where have we been? Well of course the answer is Disney… you know on weekends and in between here and there. So here is as much as you have missed… Or as much as I can remember by pulling up my Tumblr…

533187d9-6564-4d48-ad47-4022570df2e9Kaitie ran what is known to the general mass as “Whine” and Dine and the only picture I got was this rotated blurry photo of the info guide.  On the bright side it did get me excited to “RunDisney” myself (more to come on that). 20151024_141154

There is a pretty cool article about all the fun Food and Wine shenanigans on my draft! I’ll update and post that so we can all drool and count down until W&D 2016!

For Halloween, we went as Ash and Pikachu! It was pretty cool…. I think.

Valentines day,

A little more of a story here. Back in the days when Lake and Kaitie were just brewing and crushes were ensuing, We had (what we now call) our official first date. Unfortunately neither of us were sure it was a date back then. On top of that, When we went to see the princesses and Rapunzel asked me if Kaitie was my princess… I said no… yeah, I will perpetually feel terrible about it don’t worry. BUT, to make it up to her  (or start to), this year we went and saw the princesses again so I could inform them of Kaitie’s princess status!

We also ate at Skipper’s Cantina on Valentines Day! I was a little worried because it had gotten mixed reviews but those were swayed quickly. While the experience is not quite as ‘in your face’ as whispering canyon, you do get to sit back and enjoy the marvelously corny jokes and puns made by the servers. The atmosphere inside is very cool and fun while also being elegant and unique. While the atmosphere and jokes are fun and all, the food is the real show. I got the Skips Mac and Cheese with Ground Beef and it was probably one of the best bowls of Mac and Cheese I have ever consumed. Kaitie got the Rice Bowl with Tofu and also enjoyed it very much!

Well I believe that about covers most of the important things you missed! There were a few other fun trips in there somewhere but no pictures so it didn’t happen.

Dapper Day Fall Soirée

My favorite biannual holiday has come and passed… I’m talking about Dapper Day at the parks! The Walt Disney World Fall Soirée took place at Hollywood Studios on October 3rd. The weather was perfect and our outfits were on point! We went with a 50s-ish theme featuring French bicycles on my bowtie and Kaitie’s skirt.

image

We were a little lazy this year and did not actually get to the park until a little after noon, but that did not stop us from having a grand time while looking awesome doing it! This year our friend Abby,or GG Smalls as I call her, joined us for a while in our dapperness!

image

Our day started with much needed lunch at ABC Commissary. I got the standard cheeseburger. Not sure why considering there are a ton of much more delicious entrees available there. Kaitie was a tad displeased that they got rid of her quinoa salad and begrudgingly got the asian salad instead. Don’t get me wrong, lunch was still very good and ABC is one of the best counter services at Hollywood Studios.

Our first Dapper adventure took us to the Frozen song along. Of course I sang louder than most of the kids there, and that’s okay with me. After that we proceeded to Star Tours. Kaitie didn’t get to be the rebel spy… (Try not mention it, she’s still upset about the last 36 times she hasn’t been).

After so we went to the center stage, where the hat use to be, to join the dapper festivities and take some pictures together. As we stood around admiring everyone’s outfits, a couple random people even asked to take pictures of us. It basically felt like being a movie star crossed with everyone else relationship goals. Afterwards we had to make our salute to all nations, but mostly America! If you don’t know what that is, you haven’t seen M 3D enough.

The dapper day group picture and group ride of The Great Movie Ride was conveniently right when our fastpasees for TGMR was! Kaitie wasn’t too fond of standing in the large smelly group of people to smile for twenty straight minutes, but being the awesome girlfriend she is, did it with me. Of course we are both fans of TGMR and were excited to see the new ending! It was pretty cool and still has all of the old scenes in it… GOOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!

image

After wards we headed over to the bar at 50s Prime Time Café. The bar was super full with Dapper folks of all sorts. We ordered whatever the daily special was that day. It was pretty good but we waited a long while to even order.

Finally it was time to take seat and get ready for Fantasmic! We’re all about those finger sparklers Mickey has. While waiting, we also made last minute reservations for Portobello at the newly renamed Disney Springs (suck it up, there is so much more there now!)

Of course when we got to Disney Springs tons of people asked why we and others they saw were all dresses up. We ever got to meetup with few friends at the World of Magic store. Once we sat down for dinner, we decided to order 2 appetizers and a pizza. Unfortunately they informed us they were out of pizza… .. ..? We till got the goat cheese crostini and the eggplant fries which were very good.

image

Over all we had a fantastic Dapper Day! We looked great (Kaitie looked gorgeous), we had an awesome time, and have already started planning for Spring Dapper Day!

That Time Lake Had a Birthday

If a Disney fan celebrates his first steps into legal enjoyment of libation around the world at Epcot, and doesn’t blog it, did it really happen?

12033085_10153728195007216_8899958296665484211_n

The answer is we don’t know. So to be safe, here is what we remember from Lake birthday extravaganza at Disney World:

12168170_904475006287977_275512042_nLake and I started our adventure completely sober at Magic Kingdom, where we enjoyed a magical ride on the carousel with Lady Tremaine and her lovely daughters. Lake was charming as usual, and I tried to not be as painfully awkward as I usually am around characters.

Then as a special present, I agreed to go on Splash Mountain. In my 23 years of enjoying the magic that is Disney, my intense fear of falling face forward down a 52.5 foot drop at 40 mph has swayed me from going within 50 feet of that “attraction”. Maybe in another 23 years I’ll go on it again. ***

12166668_10153775155637216_461455788_n

*** Disclaimer: This is not a promise, contract, or anything that actually binds me to going on Splash Mountain on your 44th birthday Lake. DON’T get any ideas. ***

Then he bought me a Dole Whip to make up for the last 5 minutes of terror I was just exposed to. 12170599_10153775151427216_1399265432_n

We wrapped up our morning at MK and headed over to the boardwalk area. Several friends were coming to join us for dinner and Epcot festivities on Saturday, so we got a room at the Boardwalk Inn so everyone could enjoy the party without having to drive ( #responsibleadults)

We checked in, admired the room, and decided to meander over to Epcot for some lunch. We decided on Sunshine Seasons, which I used to love because of an awesome vegan beef stir fry they used to have. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find they replaced with a less than stellar vegan chik’n curry dish (and I am a curry fan, so I was surprised I still didn’t like it). I’m bitter about it, still.

However, my sadness was soon cured by a visit to La Cava de Tequila in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion. Pictures is the Pineapple Margarita – quite delicious!

12168383_904474812954663_902392981_o

We wandered around a bit more and ended up in the Mitsukoshi Store in the Japan Pavilion (mostly to cool off a bit!) We decided to try a first for both of us – sake. This was a lighter sparkling version, and we both really enjoyed it!

12166658_10153775164857216_1764274878_n
We wrapped up our time at Epcot and headed back to the boardwalk to change and head over to the Polynesian Resort. We had reservations for a late dinner at Ohana, but we were both eager to experience Trader Sam’s! Since we had a large group joining us, we had to wait a bit, probably about 45 minutes before we could get inside. Luckily, they serve the whole drink menu, include this beauty (Mosquito Mojito), on the outdoor patio. Fate was on our side, because right when our buzzer went off signaling our table was ready, the rest of our group showed up!

12165890_904475002954644_1798677020_n

If you haven’t been to Trader Sam’s yet, get yourself there – stat! In the unofficial survey I conducted at the end of the weekend, Trader Sam’s was the overall majority’s favorite experience of the weekend. Between the seven of us, we tried almost every thing on the drink menu. We really enjoyed seeing all the “magic” that occurs when certain drinks are ordered. The cast members who work there are top-notch, and they really are the ones who brought the whole experience together. 12166664_904474999621311_1564873911_n

Afterwards it was on to Ohana, which is one of Lake’s favorite restaurants and was another first experience for me. I have some dietary restrictions which Lake noted on the reservation. The cast members and chef were wonderful in letting me know what was “safe” to eat, and they even provided a special dessert that I could enjoy too.

I also got to witness Lake learning how to hula. Unfortunately all pictures were lost mysteriously.

We headed back to the hotel and chilled with some card games and eventually we all passed out. The next day, Lake and I had to drive back into town early to attend a wedding before heading back to Epcot.

12165906_904474399621371_1201426717_n

Epcot the next day turned out way more mellow than I expected, which ultimately I was ok with. We rode some rides around future world, and walked World Showcase a few times. I finally got to try the wine walk which I thought was a great deal – $20.00 for a total of 6 pours – 2 each in Germany, France, and Italy. We also made our way to the Rose and Crown Pub in England – another first which I loved! 12167178_904475012954643_417101901_n

Being that I’m 5’3 and not terribly large, I was feeling the merriment at this point. Most of the rest of Saturday night I only remember through the reports of Lake – we watched Illuminations (and I cried) and then we went to MK to watch Wishes and Celebrate the Magic (and I cried.)  I then probably spent the next 20 minutes pestering Lake about how much I love him and if he was having a good birthday.

We headed back to the Boardwalk not too much later and passed out. The next day was uneventful – checking out and heading back into town, all that depressing stuff you have to do at the end of an over wise wonderful Disney Weekend.

So, it is all official now – Lake – you are 21. And you did it right. At Disney.

And We’re Back

Well, while countdowns may die in blog world, they are still very much existent in reality. All that being said: look who’s back in the sunny state of Florida!

Photo on 8-28-15 at 9.38 AM

What an extremely accurate glimpse into our lives.

We will continue sharing our favorites in the coming days, but we got a bit busy/distracted/preoccupied in the past month or so. Too much Pokemon to play and not enough hours in the day.

We finally got ourselves to Disney for the first time in too long, and yes, we had a grand old time. We both put off seeing some of the new summer movies, Lake because he can’t imagine doing such a thing without me, and myself because I’m a lazy bum. So, we search high and low and found that (conveniently) the only theater still playing Inside Out at a time that wasn’t in the middle of a workday was the AMC at Downtown Disney. Since everyone else in the world has already seen the movie, saying this is completely unnecessary, but OH MY! What a wonderful movie.

Lake cried.

So did I, but that’s not a surprise, I cry when I see a cute Hallmark card,

It really was a grand movie, and I will definitely be buying it ASAP when it comes out on DVD. We then hustled over to Hollywood Studios, because we are lame and like Frozen. Seriously, the Frozen haters just need to stop. We practiced our lovely singing:

IMG_1424

And experienced what its like to go through a car wash. The fake snow soap storm was a bit heavy that day. I tried to get appointed as the official rebel spy, but for some reason the Star Wars gods hate me.

Then, the whole reason we headed to HS that day: The Frozen Fireworks! They were really really good – Hollywood Studios fireworks shows are always so wonderful – and these were no exception.

Then, of course the best way to end any day:

IMG_1425

One of my favorites 🙂 ❤ All in all a good day in my book!

Disney Countdown Day 22 – Your Favorite Speaking Voice

Lake says… I’m going to have to go with Genie from Aladdin. Who doesn’t love Robin Williams? His character is just so funny, and not to mention the impressions!

Kaitie says… Robin Williams as Genie in Aladdin. He just can’t be beat. Robin Williams as an actor just brought so much joy to so many, and Genie has long been one of my favorite characters. Other notable runners up include Eddie Murphy as Mushu, Tom Hanks as Woody, and Bonnie Hunt as Sally. I’m sure these are the tops on many peoples list (if they’re not, you’re wrong.)

Disney Countdown Day 23 – Your Favorite Quote Serious

Lake says… “I don’t want to survive. I want to live!” -Walle – I feel like this quote is often overlooked but it is one of my favorites. From a movie with little dialog, this quote really sticks out in the movie. Although it sounds like a cliche e-card, the context the movie uses makes it my favorite

Kaitie says…  “There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.” – Christopher Robbin, Winnie The Pooh: The Winnie the Pooh stories hold a special place in my heart. I grew up watching it over and over, read the books with my big sister, and already plan on doing the same with my future kids (or, future dogs, whatever ends up happening.) I think this quote is just really inspiring, and really sweet. It is how I feel about my loved ones, and I try to make that clear to each and every one.

Disney Countdown Day 24 – Your Favorite Disney Sidekick

Lake says… Mushu- The companion to my favorite heroine, Mushu was the obvious choice! I mean who doesn’t love this little dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy. He’s funny, a little mischievous when you think about it, and isn’t afraid to strap a rocket to himself just to help you blow some guy up!

Kaitie says… Pain and Panic (I’m cheating and saying two – but they are always together so I am counting this dynamic duo as one 🙂 ). I just think these guys are so funny. Plus, one tipsy night in college when we were deciding what villain everyone would be I got Panic, because “I just want mean enough to be a real villain (ouch!) and you know, like to panic about stuff” (direct quote from drunken friend.
